Travel Insurance Over 50s - Over 50 Holiday Insurance News

Travel insurance over 50inevitably involves high premiums, tortuous small print and extortionate excess charges - and then if you do have to claim, insurers will do their level best to wriggle out of paying up. So I can quite understand why one couple who contacted me recently said they were considering going on a two-week holiday to France without insurance. They were prepared to accept the risks of baggage loss and holiday cancellation, they said, and they both had a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), so what was the point of buying a one-off, single-trip insurance cover?

"As far as we can see, the only major cost that wouldn't be covered is transport of an injured person home and this is a risk we accept," they said. "We also understand that the French health service should be used for any illness and where payment is required we have to pay up front and then will be largely reimbursed. Are we missing anything?"
